Newcastle City Council is consulting on re-designating Selective Licensing Schemes for private rented accommodation in Byker and Greater High Cross.
Before they can introduce a licensing scheme, the Council has to show why they think this kind of scheme is needed, what kind of problems it is trying to tackle and why they think Selective Licensing is the only option left. They must consult with all affected people, such as tenants, residents, landlords, managing agents, businesses, charities, Police, Fire Service, local councillors etc. It is very important that the Council gathers as many views as possible and gives proper consideration to these views.
To make sure that they consult fairly the Council is using a variety of methods to reach stakeholders, these include on-line questionnaires, and virtual events and workshops.
The formal consultation process started on Monday 9th November 2020 and lasts for 12 weeks, ending on Sunday 31st January 2021.
